Friday Favorites

It's been a week. One with more than a couple rough spots, making it more necessary than ever to hold fast to ordinary graces.  Here are a few:

1.  We had the grandbabies over for another sleepover, when Mom and Dad were both working late shifts. Brooklynn awoke in the morning with a soft, sleepy smile. We snuggled in bed and looked at books for a little while, and I remembered the days when my kids were that age, and life as a mom was simple and  new.

2.  On Monday, I had lunch with my BFF Kathy.  We realized that we both have new grandnieces, born on the same day, just last Friday!

3.  The weather has cooled just a tad, and mornings on the porch with a cup of coffee have been so pleasant.  The way the shadows and light stretch across the deck, along with the early morning chirping of the birds, lends to a sweet start to my day.

4.  Dan and I had a mid-week date, and went out for Mexican food. A margarita for me, Mexican beer for him.  This Grandma and PopPop have earned it:)  We are feeling pretty good about how easily we've fallen back into tag-teaming with the little ones. It's like riding a bicycle:)

5.  I found a great book at the library book sale -- an unexpected, fabulous read for only a dollar -- The Magic of Ordinary Days by Ann Howard Creel.  It takes place during World War II and is the story of a city girl whose circumstances take her to a rural part of Colorado. I'm enjoying the setting, as it takes me through many places I'm familiar with, and the writing is just so lovely.

How was your week?

Always fun to have the grandkids over. We haven't had a sleepover with them yet, but we have done the tag teaming! I love Mexican food. I am looking forward to cool mornings in a few weeks. It's not too bad in the mornings now but it will be better soon. That book does sound nice - I think I've heard of it.

Some wonderful favorites for this week, Karen! I remember the first time that my husband and I had our grandkids all to ourselves. It was such fun, and as you said, it brought back memories of when their parents were their age. :)

Lunch with our BFF is always a treat! And a mid-week date with hubby just can't be beaten. I had one of those this week, too! :)

Hope your coming week will be with fewer bumps.

Sorry about the rough spots but thankful for the blessings in the middle of it all, along with the ability to see those blessings!

Isn't it fun having grandkids? Nothing like it.

So interesting that you and your BFF would become great aunts on the same day! There must be some significance in that.

Sounds like you had a good week after all. It is always good to have a date even if it is midweek. I am thankful for the cool weather along with you.

That book sounds like one I'd love to read too. I'll look for it at my local library.
I've noticed a theme this week about grandbabies and how much those of us who are blessed with them love them! I wish mine were closer.
Enjoy those cool mornings on the deck! I'd love that!

How wonderful that you are close by enough to be able to help your kids out with the grandbabies like that. The wonderful memories both you and those little ones will have of this time. And yes, you do deserve the reward with hubby at the end of it. :) The book sounds good, will have to look for it.

Hurray for well-timed tag team grandparenting. You two certainly did deserve the break.

I love finding a good deal, especially a good book deal and most especially a good book deal with lovely writing.

I had lunch with a good friend this week and it certainly does add a wonderful joy to the week. And how fun to have grand babies born on the SAME day. That is something the two of you will share forever.

I did answer your question about Jane Austen books on my site, but I will also answer it here, in case you don't go back.
My favourite of the books is Pride and Prejudice. I just finished Northhanger Abbey and it was a quick read because of the short chapters and fast-paced story.
This is the order I read them the first time around:
Northanger Abbey
Pride and Prejudice
Mansfield Park
Sense and Sensibility
I hope you do read along with us in August.
