Costa Rica

We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect. ~~ Anias Nin
I added this quote to my blog header, because it expresses, so well, why I like to write. It also could be said that it's why I like photography. The peril in both is that it's easy to get caught up in watching life through the eye of the lens or with a pen in hand, and miss being in the moment.
Over the weekend, we got together with our friends Pam and Rick, to share pictures of the trip we all took to Costa Rica last May. I told Dan afterward, I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. It's like that with good friends, the smallest things can set you off! We had dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant, then went to our house for Pam's peach crisp and vanilla ice cream and to look at pictures.  Dan set it up so that we could view the pictures on the t.v. screen.  It reminded me of watching slides when I was growing up.
View from our balcony.
The gardens at our hotel.

Arenal Volcano -- this is an active volcano that blows smoke pretty much all the time!

The adventurous ones.

Exploring the countryside with ATVs.

We visited a monkey sanctuary and got to hold a monkey with a baby. So cute!

Rick, asking directions from the locals.  Donde esta . . . ??? (One of the pictures that sent us into gales of laughter, remembering that day, driving through the countryside).

The flowers were beautiful and unusual.
A local hangout.

This church was so simple architecturally, but the hand carved altar and fresh flower arrangement made it beautiful.

Beautiful beaches.

Sunset on the beach.
It was such a fun evening, sharing memories of a great trip!

Taking photos, with which to remember specific happenings, is cool.

It's when tourists spend the entire trip, peeking through their view finder, that it seems counter-productive. :-)

Gorgeous! So fun that you have friends to remember it with! I am so guilty of living trips through the lens instead of in the moment. I'm working hard to remedy that.

Beautiful photos! I really like that quote too, and must admit I am guilty of living through the lens. I will work on that.
