February Gratitude Photo Challenge

This is the last day of the February Gratitude Photo Challenge, sponsored by Jackie at Embracing My Blessings.  I loved doing this and tried my best to post new photos each day.  I missed a few days, and sometimes I used photos that I'd taken in the past.  But, the point was to look for something to be grateful for each day, and the challenge taught me to see Grace in new ways.  I loved that.

Today's photos were taken early this morning at a new open space that our town recently acquired from a longtime resident's farm.  The plans for the buildings are still pending, but in the meantime it is a beautiful place to just walk around and enjoy the outdoors.

In this first photo, Long's Peak is in the background in the center of the picture.

A Daybook

For Today. . . February 25, 2013

Outside my window. . . a fresh blanket of snow from yesterday's blizzard.  Blue skies and bright sunshine.

I am thinking. . . of Dan at O'Hare Airport with a million other people.  He left the house at 4:00 this morning to catch an early flight.  It will be a full day of travel for him.

I am thankful. . . for a warm house with a fireplace.

In the kitchen. . . lingering aromas of the Italian dinner we had yesterday.  Meatball sandwiches for supper tonight.  Emily baked chocolate chip cookies yesterday.

I am wearing. . . jeans, sweater, hiking boots.

I am creating. . . a new journal.

I am going. . . to take the dogs for a walk and then stay home the rest of the day until it's time to pick Emily up from school.

I am reading. . . "Rules of Civility" by Amor Towles, for book club.

I am hoping. . . that we get some more snow tomorrow, as we need the moisture.

I am looking forward to. . .when Dan gets home at the end of the week, and spending time with our friends this weekend.

I am hearing. . . Brad Paisley on Pandora radio.

I am learning. . . how to slipcover a chair.

Around the house. . . bills to pay, bathrooms to clean, make a menu plan, get organized so the rest of the week will flow smoothly.

A favorite quote for today. . . "You have circled this mountain long enough.  Now turn North."
(Deut. 2:3)

Some of my favorite things. . .  avocados, good manners, watching the Academy Awards.

A few plans for the rest of the week. . .  coffee with a friend, some appointments, work, a birthday party.

A peek into my day. . . Some photos from yesterday's snowstorm.

Pitching; my son, Luke, age 19

I knew very little about baseball when Luke started playing t-ball at age 5.  Since then it has become his passion and one of my favorite things to watch.  I'm grateful for this son of mine and for the hours we've spent together sharing his favorite sport.

Grace points

Friday Fave Five is brought to you by Susanne at Living To Tell the Story.

Here are five ways my family has been blessed this week:

1.  My husband has a new job!

2.  My oldest son found an apartment that is close to his work AND has a nice, big backyard for his dog:)

3.  Younger son found a truck to buy.  He is one happy boy.

4.  I had the sweetest phone call from my daughter.  It left me smiling all day long.

5.  This morning I met a friend for breakfast.  We go way back, to high school days, and I only get to see her once a year or so.  We talked about the changes that come about as kids grow up and leave the nest, rediscovering ourselves, what happened to all the plans we made before life came and swept us up into even grander plans.  It was a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning, over coffee and omelets and toast with marmalade.

How was your week?

Something funny. . .

The topic for today's Gratitude Photo Challenge is "something funny."  I don't have any funny pictures and don't anticipate taking any today, mostly because I'm too slow to get my camera when something funny happens. I chose this photo because my Aunt Riz (holding  my cousin Jenny in the picture) is one of the funniest people I know, and I am so tremendously grateful to have her in my life.  (Rizzi blogs at Gifts from the Sea).

The day this photo was taken, we went on a drive through the mountains and ended up so incredibly lost, that it's one of those "remember when. . . " stories we still talk about today.   I'm breaking all kinds of rules today for the photo challenge -- this picture is probably 25 years old and I didn't take it (that's me in the picture, too!) -- but it is one of my favorites.

Beauty. . .

.  . . is in the eye of the beholder.  This dog was taking a snooze on the sidewalk as people bustled around him.  I think his face is gorgeous.

Favorites in Mexico

We got back from our trip to Mexico on Tuesday night and part of me is still there.  I'm thinking about all the things I loved about it . . . here are just five. . .

1.  The flowers and fauna. . . I took about a hundred pictures, the plants were gorgeous and so different than anything we have at home.

2.  This was our first experience going to an all-inclusive resort. . . the service was excellent, the food was to die for and the beverages plentiful, cool and refreshing. Total relaxation. Five days of being waited on and not having to cook. . . yeah!

3.  At first, I was a bit leery of this guy and his gazillion cousins that roamed the place.  But we came to a mutual understanding -- he didn't bother me and I tried not to be a total paparazzi.  He's just so fascinating, don't you think?  I'm grateful that in time I got over my squeamishness and saw the beauty in the beast him.

4.  The weather was gorgeous and sunny.  The colors seem so much brighter there.

5.  Most favorite thing. . . the ocean.  I could (and did) spend hours on the beach, taking in the colors and the gentle breezes and the smell of the fresh air. There was a full moon while we were there, and the light reflected on the water. . . pretty, pretty, pretty.

I'm so grateful for the chance to spend some time in paradise with my husband and our good friends!
