A New Year

New calendars, new journal, new pens and file folders. New Year.

Full of promise and rife with possibility.

The last couple days of 2012 are winding down and I'm looking towards 2013 with enthusiasm.  I think I'll forgo the usual resolutions and instead make a list of things to explore this year.  Books to read, new things to learn, experiences to try.

I've also chosen a phrase that I'm going to try to keep close to my heart this year.  It's from the Prayer of St. Francis . . . grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand.

That last part is something I've been pondering of late, amazed at the grace it has brought into my life.  It's interesting how a phrase can bring to light, something that should be so obvious.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2013!

How many times have I heard or read that prayer? And how many times have I stopped and paid attention to that last phrase - not enough!

Those words of St Francis are relevant just as much, perhaps more, today than they were when he penned them. Happy 2013!
