Feathering the nest

I've noticed that since I no longer work at my desk five days a week, sometimes a day or two will pass by and I'm not on my computer at all. And the days that I am, I generally check my email a time or two, and that's it. That, and the fact that we've had some gorgeous weather the past few days, has kept me from blogging, too!

It's amazing what I can get done when I'm not tied to the computer. On Sunday, I finished painting the master bedroom. DH started it about a month ago, and did all of the hard parts -- priming the one black wall that the former owners had painted, then painting over it with our accent color, and then repairing and painting the wall with the window. Before I started painting this weekend, he did all of the prep work, so all I had to do was apply the paint. The colors we chose are both by Behr. The main color is Gobi Desert, a soft, sandy color for most of the room. The accent wall is Belgian Sweet, a deep, chocolate brown. The bedding is white matelasse, and lest you think I'm totally boring, our drapes and accent pillows and love seat slipcover are done in the Laura's Garden print, from Country Curtains.
It's such a change for me to have a room without lots of color. But, I have to admit, it so peaceful and calm. Our bedroom furniture is cherry wood, and the palette really shows off the deep, warm tones of the wood.

My next project is to hang some pictures. I'm not quite sure what I want, so I think I'll just live with the room as is for a while and see what comes my way.

This morning my project was the flower garden in our front yard. It isn't quite finished (I need to find a 16-year-old boy to haul some rock for me this afternoon), so I'll write about it another day and post a picture!

Sounds lovely! I admit, your paint color for the accent wall made me want to rush out for some chocolate.

We have begun to turn off the computer each evening when my husband gets home. What a difference!

Your bedroom sounds lovely, Karen. I like a bedroom without a lot of color. It's one place I don't want my mind stimulated. I read years ago that you shouldn't lie in bed and watch tv. It's not a hard and fast rule with us by any means, but we did get out of the habit of doing it, and I found I slept better. I'm all about getting a good night's sleep any way I can! ;-)

Wish I had a 16yo boy to rustle up for some yard work! ;-Þ

"Work just gets in the way of my day"... that's from me when I retired the FIRST time.

Good job my friend!

Seems the weather has a lot to do with times I spend on the computer too - can get so much else done! Your room sounds beautiful and I love the accent colours. Almost motivates me to try something different in our bedroom myself!
Blessings!

HI KAREN,
THAT 16 YEAR OLD BOY,
IS HIS NAME "LUKE" I HEAR HE DOES GREAT WORK. :)
A LOT OF WORK IN THE BEDROOM, BUT AT THE END IT IS WORTH IT. LOVE YOUR COLORS,
AND THE PATTERN ON THE PILLOW IS LOVELY.
IT FINALLY STOPPED RAINING, AND THE WEATHER IS SUNNY AND COOL, REALLY NICE.
TOMORROW IS THURSDAY ALREADY, AND THE WEEKEND WILL BE UPON US, HAVE A GOOD ONE.
LOVE, AUNT RIZ

Hm, a little feng shui going on here ... fun! I know what you mean about the soft sandy colors accenting the wood tones. It's the same in my house, sands and beiges behind dark maples, and mahogany, really highlighting the wood.

I was just wondering about you.
Sounds like you have been a busy bee.
Looking forward to pictures.

Have fun!

Yay for boys (and girls) who haul rock and dig out vinca vine (which apparently reaches down to the center of the earth!) for moms. I am dying to plant the other half of my beds, but am waiting for a respite from the doggone rain. I'm beginning to think my flowers are drowning. We have a bedroom painting project coming right up as well. I just hope I can get the wallpaper off!!!

We finished our front yard landscaping flower bed projects last week. We still need to do the back deck where we added on around the pool. I need about 4 more potted plants and finish up the decor. It does take awhile to get it all done...I wish I could stay away from the computer for awhile...maybe I will challenge myself to step back from it...

I had a little revelation this morning too, about completing a task before I got on the computer. AND, after this comment, I AM going to leave and have a meal and do something else too!
Your bedroom sounds appealing and beautiful. Maybe you'll post a picture of it when it's complete? :)
