How I Spent Memorial Day Weekend

On Saturday, we drove through the mountains to the western slope for my niece's graduation party. It was a pleasant drive, with clear weather and spectacular views. My brother and his wife have a small ranch. We spent the afternoon, visiting with family and friends, on the large deck that overlooks their property. I spent some of the time taking pictures of this guy and his friends. . .
Isn't he just the cutest little baby? He has yet to be branded, but his ear is tagged with the brand that will eventually go on his little hindside. He doesn't have a clue what's in store for him:(.

On Sunday, we drove back through the mountains. When we got home, our boys were eager to show us the hail damage that had occurred the day before. It could have been a lot worse, but my plants did take a beating. Marble-sized hail pelted the area and left tree leaves strewn all through the streets and on lawns throughout the neighborhood. We lucked out, because only the day before, nearby areas had severe hail damage, with 6 to 12 inches of the stuff falling in a short period of time.

So, Sunday afternoon, was spent cleaning up my garden, pruning back a few rosebushes and trying to appreciate that the damage we suffered is nothing compared to what it does to farmers who earn their living by growing crops.

One of the rosebushes I planted before the storm. . .
Monday turned out to be a busy day, when Luke was called to play a couple of baseball games. I took Em and a couple of friends to the pool. Dan is taking the week off, so it feels like the weekend is still going!

Today, we spent the day cleaning out our camper trailer. For supper tonight, we grilled some ribs and ate on the back porch. A perfect way to welcome the first day of June!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Sounds like you had a busy holiday.
Glad to hear that the hail didn't damage too much.
Be sure to stop by--we have good news.
Enjoy having your Hubby home!

A sweet hello from Frog Hollow Farm. Driving through those mountains must have been spectacular! Which of your brothers did you visit with? We had some hail the other night but it usually only lasts a minute or less and the stones are small, small marbles! The picture of the rose is exquisite - it looks like it's burning from the inside out! I'm heading off to work for a couple of hours, then to my dad's to make dinner - Bob came home yesterday but I like making dinner for them both until Jan gets home next week. Did you take Lily with you on your trip? Ciao, bella!

Beginning to end, it sounds heavenly. Well, the hail part was a bit dicey, but look how you used that time of cleaning up to be thankful!

What a great time! Congrats to your niece. And I LOVE the new header. Isn't Picasa the best (and easiest)! I feel so creative and artistic and ... dare I say ... techie.

Hail storms can be so bad. West Kentucky had a bad on on 3/4/2005. I remember the date because I was working in insurance at the time. Our phones literally did not stop constant ringing for 2 months. Vehicles and roof damage plagued the area for months after that. It's called Neighborietis. Where one neighbor sees the other neighbor get a new roof due to hail damage so they have to have theirs checked out. Oh my....those days were long!

The rose is just beautiful. Hopefully it survived and will come back blooming better than ever!

I love trips to the country. Sounds like your weekend was full but wonderful.

So sorry about your hail damage, but I'm glad it wasn't as bad as it could be. Your trip sounds lovely - isn't getting away just the best thing sometimes?
And I love your new look - it's so fresh and clean - good job!~
