It's Friday!

Favorite moments and favorite things from this week:

1. Yesterday, I was finishing up my Christmas shopping at the mall. As I was leaving one of the stores, a man was coming in, frantically motioning to one of the sales girls to "come here." When she got to the entrance of the store, he pointed down the mall. "See that woman? The one pushing the blue baby stroller?" Yes, the sales girl nodded. To which the man replied, "I need a pair of pajamas that fit her."

I love watching men shop.

2. One of my favorite things -- these to-go cups. I found them at T*rget. The temps have been below 0 this week, so I've been sending my kids out the door to school in the mornings with one of these, loaded with hot chocolate and whipped cream. And, yes, chocolate sprinkles on top. Makes the drive to school a lot warmer!

3. You asked for it. Here's our Charlie Brown tree. Now, don't laugh!
4. On Wednesday, my book club had its Christmas meeting. We went out to eat at an Indian restaurant (I had the coconut lamb and it was delicious) and then exchanged books. This is the one I got to bring home:
5. One of my favorite things this week was putting out all our Christmas decorations, but especially all of the lovingly made ones from the kids when they were little. I always put these pictures somewhere in my kitchen, where I can see them as I'm making dinner or washing dishes. Luke and Joe made the frames for theirs -- Luke was never artistic and I love how there are just a couple of brushings of paint on his. I can hear him saying, "That's good enough." Joe's is macaroni pasted on a cardboard frame, the spray painted gold. Such a treasure. Emily never made a frame, but her picture in front of the tree, in her overalls. . . those are the memories that just warm a mom's heart.
14 more days 'til Christmas! How's everybody doing? Are you ready, almost ready, never gonna get there?

Here's the link for Friday's Fave Five.

Loved your Fab 5 today and all your recent posts. #1 made me laugh, and the to-go cups are a great idea. I have ONE gift bought. ONE. ONE. Yikes.

Great FFF list. I love that story of the man shopping for his wife!

I love your kids' adorable frames - the memories make them priceless!

I positively LOVE your Charlie Brown tree! I have ALWAYS wanted a tree JUST like that! One where you can actually SEE every ornament hanging -- and they all DO hang - or dangle. I used to BEG my husband to just ONCE go cut me down a little scrub pine! He wouldn't. NO WAY was he gonna have a goofy lookin' tree like that, he said! But I would just LOVE it. YOU are blessed!

Your childrens' frames are soooo precious too! I should have Luz make a macaroni frame for her Mom this year. I think I will!

Those to-go cups ARE great! I used to have to STOP at 7-11 to get our coffee and hot chocolate for on the way to school. They didn't sell to go cups in the stores BACK THEN! ;)

That pj story was hysterical! I can see a guy doing that.

Thanks for posting the tree. For sure a Charlie Brown :-), but what a statement it makes!

If I gave my kids hot cocoa with whipped cream AND sprinkles every morning I would be crowned coolest mom on the planet. Of course, you already have that honor seeing how you already give your kids that yummy thing!

I am almost-ready, just a little decorating to do. Love, love your Christmas tree. It reminds me so much of one that I wrote about. If you find yourself with a few extra minutes during this busy time, it's story is listed on my blog sidebar, under flashquake. I swear, your tree and mine are twins :)

Love the cups, love the tree (I'll bet it smells marvelous!), and especially love the pictures. I might have to use the gold painted macaroni frame as a project for the kids at church sometime!

The shop store is hilarious! When I was an undergrad I worked in a store where we primarily sold cashmere sweaters to tourists. The amount of tourists who's wives/sisters/girlfriends were the same size as me was astounding ;)

I think I'm in the category of "not gonna get there."

What a great mo you are, sending your kids off in the mornings with hot cocoa topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. They're the envy of all the other school kids!

Ready? Ummm, no. Haven't bought the tree yet, so we really haven't decorated yet.

A book given anytime is always a favorite with me.

Love the Charlie Brown tree. So much character and I'll bet it smells wonderful.

I always really liked frames that my kids had made. And I had a miniscule brush stroker too. :v)

This was wonderful, loved every bit of it! So funny about the man at the mall, hahaha! Those are the cutest cups. I love snowmen so they are just too cute :) And I love your tree, it looks very loved and might not have found a happy home with anyone else, LOL!

Merry Christmas to you and your family, Karen :)

HI KAREN, LOVE THE STORY ABOUT THE PJ'S. YOUR TREE LOOKS REALLY NICE, ALL OUR TREES ARE UP, AND LOOKING LIKE CHRISTMAS. WOW! NOT MANY DAYS LEFT, BUT I AM DONE SHOPPING FOR THE BIG PRESENTS, JUST A FEW SMALL ITEMS TO BUY. I REMEMBER I HAD A SMALL BIRD FEEDER I HUNG ON MY TREE FOR 20 YEARS, MY BILLY MADE IT IN SCHOOL. IT FINALLY FELL APART AFTER GLUING IT BACK TOGETHER TRILLIONS OF TIMES. YOU'RE RIGHT, ALL THOSE LITTLE PICTURES HANGING IN YOUR KITCHEN TOUCHES YOUR HEART. HAVE A NICE DAY. LOVE, AUNT RIZ

You always have the best Fave Five's! I always love reading them. Your tree is just adorable and is exactly the size that would work best in my small living room - instead of the monstrous fat bush that I have!
And I think sending your kids out with hot chocolate in the morning is just the sweetest thing I've heard in a long time!
