Settling in

At last, here are the photos I promised! I hadn't forgotten, I was just having a heck of a time getting them transferred from the camera to the computer. Until I figured out that I had the camera cord plugged into the wrong place. Not that I'm technologically challenged or anything. Ahem.
I think my roosters look happy, perched up on the top of the fridge.
The previous owners left all of the blinds and window treatments. I love the wood blinds and the awning-style valence in the kitchen. A-a-and looking at this picture, I'm thinking the lamp needs to be hung a bit lower. It's running into the valence. But, the valence looks very cute with my rooster theme. However, the curtains in the rest of the house will be changed, eventually. A few yards of fabric, and presto!
The kitchen leads right into the family room, and the door on the right leads out to a deck. Hubs already has a plan to expand the deck, cover it and screen it in.
Here's a closer view of the family room. (Note the soon-to-be-removed valence. Upon closer view, it's rather artsy the way it is sewn together. But I still look at it and see two pieces of fabric thrown over a rod.)
The house is sorely in need of bookcases! These two flanking the fireplace are it, with the exception of a few that we brought with us. So, there's another project. These will be retrimmed and painted, and we've yet to do some furniture shopping for a new sofa. This one will go up in the loft to recreate a reading/sewing/hobby area.
The rest of the house still has a lot of this:
So we won't go there!
So, you can see I have a lot of work to do. I'm off to unpack a few more boxes, and do some laundry and cleaning. What's up with your day?

Oh my goodness, it looks wonderful Karen! So much room, and so homey too. Love the kitchen, especially that you have a desk area and then an island too, lots of great use-able space. I think bookcases around the fireplace would look awesome, but then again, I'm a bookworm. It all looks so nice, I bet you guys just love it!

Have fun working through the boxes and settling in more. Post more pictures if you can (now that you have that pesky cord thing figured out, LOL!)

I love it! It's my dream arrangement, a roomy kitchen opening right up to a family room.

I like the wood floors in the kitchen and looks like you have lots of space. I am with you on the valance in the family room. How nice floor to ceiling bookcases would be beside your fireplace. Fun, putting your own stamp on to things. Looks like nice family friendly spaces.

My day is consisting of work and rain. And now my surge protector is going off and driving me crazy. It does that from time to time. Notice I didn't stop posting in order to see what was wrong.

Your home is beautiful. I can't wait to see more pictures. Sometimes I miss having a "regular" house. With lots of windows and stuff. Since we live in a basement home we only have one side of the house with windows. Fortunately my bedroom has a window and that is a good thing.

Enjoy your holiday weekend Karen.

Oh you have a desk area in your kitchen, I love that! Great pictures, great job...it looks like you've done tons to me. I love the pictures, thanks for sharing them and yes, now that you have the cord figured out you can show more!
My day? Even though I'm a day late telling you, it's full of laundry! Like 10 days worth because my machine has been broken, ugh. I'm not loving sears service at the moment.

Love the new kitchen! And I don't think a house can ever have too many bookshelves! You're lucky to have a husband who can make screened in, expanded decks happen!

I love it! What a lovely kitchen--what I wouldn't give to have one like that! It looks like you have made great strides and have it at least at a liveable an cosy state.
Have a wonderful weekend--
